Fifty-seven-year-old Sanford Kaplan has been released on bond. The Lincoln man is facing a variety of charges linked to allegations of child abuse.

Kaplan was formally charged on Thursday with six counts of false imprisonment, six counts of child abuse and two counts of Third-Degree Sexual Assault.

According to court documents, Kaplan has admitted groping his victims while they were bound and suspended from the rafters in a detached garage at his Lincoln home.

Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner continues to urge possible victims to come forward.

He said Thursday, "We simply don't have the manpower to interview every child that Kaplan coached. So we really need the parents to determine whether or not their children have been victimized."

Kaplan had been teaching a geology class at Southeast Community College since early April. He was a part-time professor of geology at UNL, the boys soccer coach at Lincoln Northeast High School and a youth soccer coach for various organizations including the Capital Soccer Association.

Kaplan was released after posting 10 percent of $100,000 bond.

If you are a regular reader--there have been a coule of posts by 'original cop' that don't sound like him at all. It sounds like somebody trying to make fun of him for doing exactly what the posting board is for. So--calm down bystander.

why is this guy out roaming around...Who is going to be held responsible if he hurts another child or runs...he should be in jail until his trial..duh

I think that this is rediculous that they set his bond so low. They shouldn't have even given him a chance to get out on bond. Those children and families are suffering enough, at least give them some kind of comfort in knowing that he cant get to so soon after charges have been filed. People who commit ceimes should be locked up with no option to get out on any kind of bond no matter what the crime. They knew what they were doing was wrong and yet they did it anyway.

Must not be the "original" original cop posting on here. He/she would know that us in law enforcement are not psychics. And the sheriff did not let him out of jail. A JUDGE sets bond and if the bad guy has the cash (unfortunately) they can get out of jail.

IT CALLED DUE PROCESS. "LAW ENFORCEMENT" HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO RELEASE HIM IF HE PAYS BOND. AND TO YOU, ORIGINAL COP, THE LAW COULDN'T STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING ANY EASIER THAN YOU CAN. WERE NOT MIND READERS. LANCASTER COUNTY DIDN'T LET ANYTHING HAPPEN, THE CRIMINAL DID.

Wait original cop...you sit here and correct everyone when they are talking bad about the OPD but now that its somewhere else you can criticize...a little hypocritical...if no victims came forward how were they supposed to know? He was someone that everyone thought was just a good citizen helping kids. As soon as they found out about the abuse they put a stop to him. What were they supposed to do?? Arrest anyone that helps kids if they don't have any?

They better get the manpower. What a cop out to society. Terry you have got to be kidding me. Let's just let him out on bond so he can keep doing this or skip town. What is going on with our law enforcement??????

Released - what were you thinking. Well we can always hope he binds himself to the rafters and stays there.

I wish there were rules against releasing those charged with child abuse of any kind. This man should not be back out in public where he could easily harm another child.

I can't believe Lancaster County allowed this type of criminal behavior to go on for so long. So many victims with no outlets providing help. Over here in Omaha we have a very involved victim's assistance unit. This unit is an off-shoot from OPD's tip-line. We could of provided quicker and more professional intervention before a problem such as this went soooo far.
