    Accused of incident in April

    Thirty-five-year-old Robert Baker has been charged with First Degree Assault and two counts of kidnapping related to an incident involving his ex-girlfriend and her daughter in April.

    Police had been looking for him since April 27 when he allegedly kidnapped the two victims at knifepoint from their northwest Omaha apartment. He surrendered to authorities this week.

    Police say Baker forced the woman and her daughter into a vehicle at knifepoint. He allegedly drove them to a Fremont-area lake, where they were able to escape.

    Baker could face life in prison if convicted.

    Again, trying to place blame on everyone but HIM. First, the victim, then suggesting that others were involved with his LIFESTYLE (which is absolutly FALSE), then accusing others of not trying to help (which again is absolutly FALSE). You have no clue how people tried to help. When someone is in this situation, you can not always get thru to them. You can TRY all you want but until they have had enough, you can not force them to leave. Trust me, there is nothing EASY about seeing someone with black eyes and bruises all over them and not being able to make them feel strong enough to leave. There is nothing to judge here... the cold hard facts say it all. Instead of trying to find fault in everyone else, step back and take a look at what happened. Does anyone deserve being kidnapped and assaulted? Even IF she WAS seeing him - (which again is FALSE).

    Really?!?! if you did know the WHOLE story then why didn't you do anything to really help the "victim"? And to your comment before she finally left....isn't it true that she was still SEEING him up until that morning of the incident? Since you know the WHOLE story, answer that question? Seems like you just want to sit back and judge now rather than have to have done anything at the time....easier that way huh?

    Yep, your right, I do know the WHOLE story. It takes a long time for someone who is getting beat to finally break away from someone. She was not ONLY beat but verbally abused and broken down mentally by him. The LIFESTYLE he lived was promise to stop. She loved him, thats why she stayed with him. Its something many abused victims go thru. They even trust their abusers with their children because of the love for them. Its sad but true. It took lots of beatings before she finally left... but if it makes you feel better to blame the victim for his actions, you go ahead. It will all come out in court.

    Really?!?!, sounds like you know more to the WHOLE story which is really interesting.... were you involved with his dangerous lifestyle? If so, must have been okay if when SOMEONE was benefiting from him! Yes a child was involved but if he was SO dangerous, then why was the mother having his babysit her daughter or pick her up from school? Maybe you need to get your facts straight?

    WOW Michelle - I DO know the whole story.... even all the illegal things... and how he is a drug felon and his steroid use and ... should I keep going? Get YOUR facts stright, cause HE is dangerous and a CHILD was involved.

    There is more to this story than what is being reported. Obviously it is easy and understandable to feel sorry for the victim when it is a woman, but the victim many times is not as innocent as she proclaims. When the police are questioning the victim, many times she doesn't want to admit her involvement, what she did up to this point or the TRUTH behind the situation for fear of her guilt or illegal activity. So she stretches the truth and even LIES to become the "victim" . What he DID DO was not right as he should have walked away, but it is not exactly what/how it happened!!

    I am saddened by the culture of male violence against women in this country. This man's behavior is yet another sad example. It's time for a presidential-level national dialog about this problem. Because men are generally in charge of our government, I think tragedies, such as violence against women, are not given the focus they deserve. We have a massive cultural issue that must be changed--we are raising our men (and girls) to be violent.
