A Wisconsin woman was killed and four others injured Monday in two separate accidents on Interstate 80 east of Lincoln.

The first crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. when 23-year-old Khayriniso Yarbabaeva of Omaha lost control of her eastbound car, crossed the median and was struck on the passenger side by a westbound car driven by 25-year-old Elizabeth Swift of Yankton, South Dakota.

Yarbabaeva was taken to St. Elizabeth’s’ Medical Center in Lincoln with injuries not considered life threatening. Swift was not hurt.

A second crash occurred minutes later as westbound traffic was slowing down for the first accident. A semi driven by Thomas Shutt of Logan, Iowa was struck from behind by a pickup, killing 47-year-old Dawn Reiter of Wrightstown, Wisconsin who was a passenger in the pickup.

The pickup driver, Dawn's husband Steven Reiter, was treated and released from a Lincoln hospital. Sixteen-year-old April Reiter and 20-year-old Tayler Snyder, passengers in the pickup, were admitted to Bryan-LGH West in Lincoln with non-life threatening injuries.

Westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed at the Greenwood exit for about two hours.

The saddest part of this tragedy, is that they were on their way to the funeral in Colorado of a 16 year old

Oh! how sad & bad. I can't help but think Speed was a factor. It's not just Omahans & Iowans that are speed-demons, is it? The whole country is driving like maniacs. I can attest to it. I walk alot & see it. I noticed the awful changes through the many years of being on foot. I've sensed it riding in cars & Buses too. Drivers these days are so very BLIND to the fact that they are endangering themselves & God knows whoelse. There are only so many Officers to to deal with crimes of speeding. Out of control drivers who won't slow down commit a crime of the heart. They're heartless & much of the time oblivious to their dangerous ways. Speed demons are often so responsible for deaths. Accidents are deadly reminders & harsh teachers. Some Americans are so very tired of asking, pleading & even begging drivers to Please Slow Down! I know it's not always speed. Sometimes it's just not being in the right place at the right time. Fly not faster than your guardian angel can fly. Repent! speeder!

I would like to see median dividers of some sort put along the interstate, especially between Omaha & Lincoln. Other states have a variety of solutions, so maybe we could implement something to keep cars from going into oncoming traffic at 70mph.

SLOW down! I can't tell you how sick I am of the people that speed down the interstate. The speed limits are what they are for a reason. Fine if you want to endager yourself, but stop endangering other law abiding drivers and construction workers. From Omaha to Lincoln the volume of speeding drivers is ridiculous. I would love to see more Patrol coverage in Cass Co./Sarpy Co near the Platte River. I would think that since fines are doubled in construction zones the amount of violators that would be fined would be more than enough to pay for additional enforcement. Maybe that would be a good evening story, evaluate the number of speeding vehicles with in a time frame on various stretches of I-80.

I wish people would pay more attention on that road! We drive it every week to go to Aurora and I can't tell you the amount of times we've had to call 911 due to and accident, or people driving foolishly. Slow DOWN and pay attention!!!!
