A 16-year-old Omaha boy is back home, recovering from a gunshot wound after being shot in the back on Sunday night.

The victim is identified as Lee Phillips

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m.

Police were called to a home near 28th and Ames.

Phillips reported that he answered a knock at the door but no one was there. He says that as he turned to go back inside he heard five to six shots fired and one hit him in the back.

Phillips was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

Anonymous - some things may not be a matter of choice, but I think everyone has a choice about shooting a gun at someone (or not), getting an education (or not), respecting themselves and others (ditto)....you get the idea. Some in North O are not choosing to be law-abiding citizens, and others are choosing not to report them. Yes, there have been problems in other parts of town, too. I'm guessing that if people from those other parts of town were to try to step in and help North O, they'd be turned away or shot at, too. There's only so much the rest of us can do......

I wish people would stop saying it is a North O thing. This is our city, we all live here - in OMAHA!! We all need to step up to the plate and stop avoiding the issue! These are God's people! People don't chose what nationality they are born into, what fortune they are handed down. They may not have the money and they may not have the high priced home, but they are PEOPLE just like you! They are human and they have problems just like the rest of us! There is a major problem ALL OVER OMAHA, even West Omaha! Wake up people - take your blinders off!

Every freaking Spring until winter this happens in North O.This is America not Somalia or Lebannon. People aren't looking out for their neighbors. The madness has got to stop!

if people in north omaha don't want to invole the police then they need to step up themselves and improve things. it is a shame that people in north omaha think this behavior is ok. Yes it is a north o thing because you don't see groups of 30 or more hanging around waitng to fight in other places of omaha.

It's sad how bad North O has become. What's worse, is that residents of north O claim that police don't help, yadda yadda. But in Order for police to help, witnesses have to come forth. If you don't, then don't complain about not getting help. I hope that Lee is doing okay.
