Omaha Police are downplaying any possible connection between the victim of a homicide and his recent court testimony.

Police say they found 30-year-old Clenix Martin shot several times near 16th and Victor just before 11 p.m. Sunday. Homicide investigators were on the scene until daybreak looking for evidence and conducting interviews.

Paramedics took Martin to a hospital in extremely critical condition and he later died.

Martin was one of the jail house informants who testified against Roy Ellis, the man convicted of killing 12-year-old Amber Harris, but police say they don't believe there is any connection between that testimony and Martin's murder.

i live in downtown omaha, and daily i see the panhandlers, and the drunks, and every day i see lots of black people at the bus stops, but guess what these people are going to work or returning home from work, theres lots of good hard working people in north O, but we never hear about that. Oh yea, Von Maur is west of 72 street.

    Thanks Mary O! Damn straight!

To all of you "West O's," in my 40 years of life, I have never lived west of 72nd St; and I have never been scared, threatened, witnessed congregations, had drive-bys nor heard gunshots (except during the 21-gun salutes in the cemetery across the street). I've lived at 16th & Deer Park Blvd., 32nd & Wright, 69th Ave & Spring and 58th & Oak. Not everyone east of 72nd St is a menace to the rest of you. You need to have more knowledge of this city before you make such broad statements! Does Fair Acres ring a bell? No surprise you're commenting anonymously.

I find it hard to believe there's no connection. Nonetheless, I wish there were more witnesses who would come forward to get the killers off the streets. Obviously this is one of the reasons they don't. I don't know Mr. Martin or anything about him, but I pray that he rests in peace.

Posted by: anonymous Location: omaha on May 13, 2008 at 08:58 AM
This is a classic example of why people are afraid to come forward. If the police can say that it is not linked to testifying then what is it linked to? Why have they not arrested anyone yet then if they already know it is not linked to the testifying. They must know something right? People who think this is an excuse not to come forward, would you put your yourself and your family in the path of a derranged murderer before the police have a chance to catch him? I don't think you would.

Whatever excuse you need. Keeping hiding. Keep protecting those that are detroying your neghborhoods. Then be the first ones on here or on TV, complaining to police aren't doing enough. I'm a positive person, but I don't think North Omaha will ever get cleaned up.

Rest In Peace "ZERO" you will be missed. He was a father....may god bless his family and his children.

Place 72, sorry I have to agree that IT IS NOT SAFE to go east of 72 after dark. With 5 shootings just this weekend, I wouldn't be caught there after dark, or even during the daylight hours on a weekend.nothing down there that I would risk my life for.

this is why ppl are afraid 2 come forward with information about the ongoing happenings in town

I feel safe in my West O neighborhood. Let's see, I've never heard gunshots, there's been no driveby's on my block, and we don't crowds of thugs congregating in parking lots at 3 a.m. The rest of you should move out here so you can get a good nights sleep.

You don't have to run his name it told you he was in jail with Ellis. He did something right he testfied against Ellis. We can thank him for that.

Hey! I live East of 72nd and don't fear being out past dark. Doesn't matter where you are, stupid people are doing stupid thing whether you are East of 72 or in West O.

Posted by: kathy Location: omaha on May 12, 2008 at 03:24 PM
Even if he did get shot and killed for testifying, I'll bet he wouldn't take back one single word that he testified on that stand. He help put a slime away and hopefully a needle in his arm.

its not safe to go east of 72nd street after dark to be honest with you

Posted by: Public Record Location: Nebraska on May 12, 2008 at 02:36 PM
Run Clenix Martin's name on the Nebraska Inmate Locator. You will find a couple of felony convictions. It's public record!

JD- Who would be standing up for Roy Ellis? I have no insight on this, but Ellis doesn't seem to be very well connected, and he was convicted of killing a little girl. If someone wanted to eliminate witnesses don't you think it would have been done before trial?

Posted by: Hobbes Location: CB on May 12, 2008 at 12:34 PM
No, I'm sure they weren't connected at all. This is just another random shooting in North O. None of it makes any sense. It's just another underprivledged kid whose parents didn't spend any time with him walking out of his government subsidized dwelling, deciding to take another life. One more reason to build the wall around North O.

Sounds to me like it's not safe to go east of 42nd street after dark.

I think we can coclude this wasnt a coincidence after testifying in a murder trial!
