A water main break shut down a portion of Cass Street in midtown Omaha Friday. Expect traffic disruptions in the area of 83rd to 86th Street until early next week.

Omaha police were asking drivers to avoid the area.

Jeff Briton at Public Works says work on the water main itself was expected to be finished Friday but the street itself will likely be closed until Monday or Tuesday. He says they need time to fix structural damage to the buckled street.

Working in that area it seems that Cass Street constantly has problems like this. It has been closed so many times over the last few years for breaks, repairs etc. One would think they could get it right eventually.

Didn't they just do some major work on just this stretch of road? Now it's buckled and the water main broke so they get to do it all over again. It's those wonderfully adequate water lines and sewers, right?!
