A judge Tuesday ordered Derrick West-Jones held without bond in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Kathleen Jackson in a dispute over loud music.

West-Jones was charged with murder and use of a weapon in connection with the April 27th shooting in an apartment building at 63rd and Taylor.

Ms. Jackson died in the hospital a few days later from a head wound.

Two women were initially taken into custody as alleged accessories, but the county attorney declined to file charges.

West-Jones was charged in a 2005 murder. He took a plea deal and served 20 months in prison.

Whose brilliant idea was it to allow a murderer to PLEA BARGAIN....then only serve 20 months....only to murder again.

Convict him, and execute him! Why did the county attorney decline to charge those other two women with accessory? They could have stopped this, and should also be held accountable.

This has nothing to do with a "white or black" crime, I wish people would stop using race as an excuse or "reason" as to why crime happened. A woman lost her life and now that she's gone where are all of the people talking about her "mug shot" it didn't matter before and it doesn't matter now. She lost her life over something stupid. I hope this guy gets death. When he went to her door it is clear that he had one thing on his mind and that was "payback". To all of you who think the 2 girls should have been punished, why? You don't know if they knew what he was going to do. They may not have been in the same room with him when he grabbed the gun. If Mr. Kline is not pressing charges then don't you think there is more to the story? I'm sympathy’s to Miss Jackson's family; my prayers for comfort will be with you.

20 months for his first charge in 2005? SERIOUSLY? It was a murder!!! Look what he's done again! He should've been locked up the first time and this young lady's life would've never been taken away. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I wish everyone would shut up over the stadium it is a done deal. Lets move on from that subject. The stadium has nothing to do with crime on the streets. Now leave it to RIP!!!!

Why isn't there more outrage over the fact that this "man" served only 20 months for another murder?

Posted by: p Location: omaha on May 6, 2008 at 04:34 PM
to steve why are you shocked black on black crime is a everyday thing in omaha and the only reason they sy the white man is hurting them is because a white man can come out of jail and get a good job but a black man has to hear about his background check and how they can't hire them so you need to maybe help and not be so quick to judge . ask yourself whyis there so much crime in our streets and less in yours why do whites have better jobs homes and whatever

to nette pooh how would you feel if the shoe was on the other foot, would you want someone to say that about you or your family? none of this stuff should have happened. this is very sad how someone life is just gone over stupid stuff. this world is not going to get any better, it is just time for people to start PRAYING for their familes. when ever any one finish saying about how they feel, it is still left up to GOD, he is the one that have the last word

I'm shocked, another black on black crime. So where is Ernie Chambers? All we hear about is how bad the "white man" is. But daily North O and black crime is getting worst. Why don't Ernie and other African American leaders take a step and hit the streets and get people to take care of their self and take pride in North O!.

BAIL DENIED...HMMPH! THE JERK PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE BAIL ANYWAY. MAY HIS LIFE BE SNUFFED OUT JUST AS HE HAS SNUFFED OUT KATHY'S. HE IS A USELESS PIECE OF SKUM THAT DOES NOT DESERVE THE BENEFIT OF A TRIAL. HE CHOSE HIS OWN FATE WHEN HE PULLED THE TRIGGER...GUILTY AS CHARGED!! THE PUNISHMENT SHOULD BE A LIFE FOR A LIFE!

Stop with the new stadium comments! We are not having a problem with crime because we are getting a new stadium. It's not an either or. I would rather use money to end American hunger for what the space program cost us on an annual basis. I wish.

If he is guilty, may he never see freedom again.

Why do we put up with this? Why dont we get tough with these punks? The justice system has failed to protect us. Instead, the cycle continues as does the shootings! Just like in the Far East, when the punishment is STRONG & SWIFT, THEN you will see crime diminish. Yes, I talking about what some bleeding hearts will call "cruel & unusual" but we tried and failed to be "nice". Today, it needs to be a eye for an eye! THEN you will have the criminals attention. Until then, its just a joke!

Posted by: Dave Location: Omaha on May 6, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Declined to file charges against the women? What a joke..hopefully society takes care of them since the law will not!

LOSER!!!!!.....Lock him up & throw away the key!

Posted by: Lori Location: omaha on May 6, 2008 at 10:47 AM
GOOD. NO BOND. He should be held in jail until his trial and go directly to prison after being found guilty...if the jury doesn't let him off like the last time.

Posted by: W Location: midtown on May 6, 2008 at 10:22 AM
anyone willing to shoot someone over loud music should get the strongest punishment. The county attorney should also have charged the 2 women involved to teach people a lesson. Not charging the 2 others involved is why so many people think they can get away with things. Nebraska is getting light on crime. I would rather the money for the new stadium went to pay for more prison space and to law enforcement.
