A man gave his mother part of his kidney and the story should have a happy ending, but someone stole mom's ride to see the doctor for vital appointments.

"He's my hero," says Laurie Robb, referring to son Nick. She is recovering from a kidney transplant with Nick the donor. "It was the first thing in my mind that I had to help her."

Nick, along with girlfriend Kelsey, also donated rides that his mom needs to and from daily appointments at the Nebraska Medical Center.

The white, four-door 1991 Buick Century with Nebraska plates PXF 797 that the family depended on so much, especially to get to doctor's appointments after the kidney transplant, was stolen.

So Laurie has been borrowing a car from relatives so she and her son can make it to vital examinations. Meanwhile, Kelsey hopes for recovery of the family's stolen car calling the city impound lot every day.

Laurie doubts thieves knew a transplant donor and recipient depended on that car so much. “A lot of people might not think an old Century Buick like that is anything, but when it's everything, they just don't know what they've done," says Laurie.

Robb says her son had the courage to give her a kidney so thieves should have the decency to give his car back.

Look to the medical insurance companies. When I worked at one, someone had the idea of leaking car information of transplant and other high cost patients. When a patient's car is stolen, it shakes things up and reduces the potential for recovery--and reduces future medical bills. I left the company over other issues, never thinking they would actually stoop this low!

The fact that this has happened again speaks volumes of the crime this city is seeing recently!! The mayor and the police need o do something. Pretty soon we will be rated one of the most crime ridden places to live. That would be sad! My heart and prayers go out to this family. May God Bless them.

Didn't this just happen like a month ago with another transplant patient?

What is the deal lately? Isn't this about the third story like this, a car stolen from someone either dying or waiting for a transplant, etc?? This world is so sad! I could never dream about doing something illegal like that, what is wired wrong in other's minds to cause them to do so??

Man, stealing a sick woman's car, that's just wrong. But you can't totally blame the car thief. He didn't know it belonged to a transplant patient. Maybe if the hospital would give rear view mirror placards for people to hang up they coulda prevented this tragedy.

Eric, anyone that steals a car is a low life as far as I am concerned.

Trust me, it wouldn't make one lick of difference to car thieves WHO their victims are...transplant recipients or people waiting for an organ transplant. All the thieves car about is ME ME ME ME ME. Selfish thugs...hope they're caught.

Do you really think someone who would steal a car would care that its owner is a transplant recipient? '91 Buick - GM car - easy pickings for a thief. Hope its recovered.
