A possible tornado struck the southeast Nebraska village of Johnson just after midnight Friday. No one was hurt, but several businesses and homes were damaged.

A possible tornado struck the southeast Nebraska village of Johnson just after midnight Friday. No one was hurt, but several businesses and homes were damaged.

Storm spotters say they saw a tornado, but weather officials have yet to confirm a touchdown. Nemaha County Emergency Services Director Bob Cole says some of the downtown buildings were heavily damaged, but only minor damage was visible on homes among the village's 259 residents.

Johnson-Brock Public School had some roof and structural damage and its yard was covered with debris from other structures. Classes were cancelled for the day.

Radar indicated a tornado near Tecumseh, nine miles west of Johnson, just after midnight.

Meanwhile, 2-4 inches of snow was possible in northeast Nebraska with higher accumlation expected in northwest Iowa.
