A possible tornado struck the southeast Nebraska village of Johnson just after midnight Friday. No one was hurt, but several businesses and homes were damaged.

Storm spotters say they saw a tornado, but weather officials have yet to confirm a touchdown. Nemaha County Emergency Services Director Bob Cole says some of the downtown buildings were heavily damaged, but only minor damage was visible on homes among the village's 259 residents.

Johnson-Brock Public School had some roof and structural damage and its yard was covered with debris from other structures. Classes were cancelled for the day.

Radar indicated a tornado near Tecumseh, nine miles west of Johnson, just after midnight.

Meanwhile, 2-4 inches of snow was possible in northeast Nebraska with higher accumlation expected in northwest Iowa.

i was so scared becuzz i had never been in a actual tornado before and a tree in my front yard snapped and that is wat told my mom that there was really stong winds coming so we got down stairs and before we knew it there on the radio it said tornado in a small town in SE johnson ne that is my comment about the tornado in johnson ne

"How do you "see" a tornado at midnight?? " Its called lightning. Don't you remember the famous pictures of the Greensburg tornadoes taken at night?

How do you "see" a tornado at midnight?? This weather is SOOO messed up and I'm so tired of it. Pick a season and stick with it already!!!

They confirmed the touchdown. They say it's an EF1. We got things cleaned up a lot better than it was. FYI our town has 323 people not 259 and the tornado touched down in town.
