Breeder's Property Raided

A Douglas County horse breeder sentenced for animal neglect last summer is in trouble again. Authorities raided Ken Soll's property Thursday.

Last month, Soll was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay the Humane Society more than $5,000 for vet bills and boarding. That followed the discovery of neglected horses on his property in February.

One horse had to be put down and Humane Society officials say it was one of the worst cases of horse neglect in the Omaha area.

On Thursday, the Humane Society and Douglas County Sheriff's deputies returned to Soll's property and couldn't believe what they found.

The Humane Society's Mark Langan says, "We now find a dog living with no food or water, no shelter whatsoever; dead and live chickens in the same cage after he was ordered by the judge not to possess any animals besides one dog. So we're going seize these animals, issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Soll and charge him again with more counts of animal cruelty."

Langan says probation and a fine did not work in this case and maybe, now Soll will face a more stringent penalty for neglecting animals.

Langan says, "We're gonna do our best to let the judge know what happened here so maybe the best place for Mr. Sol is a jail cell rather than being here at home."

Neglected and abused animals were once again taken away from the Soll property. A judge will decide what happens to the seized animals.

Soll pleaded guilty to two counts of neglect last month. In exchange, 13 other charges against him were dropped.
