A support bus for a team of bicyclists participating in the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa crashed and caught fire Saturday morning on the last leg of the ride.
Police says the bus went out of control at about 9 a.m. on a steep hill entering Guttenberg in northwest Iowa.
Police Sergeant Jerry Moser says the brakes failed on the bus and it jumped a curb, went over a set of train tracks and rolled down an embankment before catching fire.
One of the passengers was flown to University Hospitals in Iowa City for treatment. The other person on the bus was treated for minor injuries.
No bicyclists were injured.
The names of the injured people and their conditions were not immediately released.
The 485-mile ride ended at the Mississippi River at Guttenberg for the nearly 10,000 riders participating in the event.
