Cat Bounty Dogs Randolph Save Email Print
Plan scrapped

Randolph, Iowa has rescinded a $5 bounty on wild cats. Instead, the town has agreed to work with animal rescue groups on a catch, neuter and release program.

Mayor Vince Trively says the town has told them to "get it lined up."

The City Council approved the bounty after complaints about dozens of feral cats. Under the policy, stray cats without collars would be taken to a veterinarian, and if they weren't claimed, they'd be euthanized. That caused an uproar among animal lovers and animal rights group around the world after media reports about the town's plans.

The city has since voted to end the bounty and put together a task force.

Three organizations -- Maryland-based Alley Cat Allies, Best Friends Animal Society of Utah and Feline Friendz in Nebraska -- are involved. The groups will meet next week to come up with a plan.

Staci, cats do take down healthy rabbits and squirrels. I've seen it many times, and I don't mean on Animal Planet. Get your facts straight before you go spinning the issue. It's obvious from my sarcasm that I know rabbits don't eat mice or squirrels. You should be ashamed of your blatant feigned stupidity. My point is people like Kris somehow cognitively separate the killing of an animal from the killing it does. "Cat's are living beings and we shouldn't kill them. I choose to be ignorant of any killing done by cats." By the way, I don't have cable or watch Animal Planet, but I do own and enjoy Wild Kingdom on DVD.

To keith...I thought it was nature for cats to hunt mice, rats and birds? I've never seen one take down a rabbit or a squirrel unless it was sick or injured. And rabbits don't hunt mice or squirrels....they arent meat eaters..they don't even have teeth for that. Get your facts straight before you go spinning the issue. Watch Animal Planet once and awhile..you migh learn something.

Kris, are you aware that cats kill mice, rats, squirrels, rabbits and birds?! They also are "living, breathing beings and deserve a chance." If we send out an army of spayed and neutered cats, what chance do these other precious beings have? I have never seen a cute rabbit gnawing a mouse or chasing down a squirrel. Don't they have more of a right to life than those murderous cats?

They take a big bite out of the mouse population in your homes??!!

Hate Peta...You are a knee jerker arent you. Peta is NOT involved in this matter. NON profit rescue groups are, which cost your cheap self nothing. To Ed, I wish YOU would wander round my place!

I'm sick and tired of people thinking it is ok to kill cats and other animals. These cats are living, breathing beings and deserve a chance. I think it's wonderful that someone is stepping in to find a solution to this that doesn't involve the murder of hundreds of innocent cats.

I would rather see my tax dollars going to something that is useful like this. I see alot of people desert their animal when they no longer want it or when they move and can't have pets. That is wrong. I live in Griswold, Iowa a small town and we have so many cats running around. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and they are all fixed and have their shots every year. It is not that expensive and most Vets will work with you. Bullets will not solve the problem. Thats very cruel good thing you're not a cat or dog. It is our towns responsibility to do something about the people who desert the animals. Give out fines like they do if they catch your pet wondering around without a leash.

Euthanize them. My neighborhood has an out of control cat problem. We have a neighbor who adopts 'cute' kittens all the time and then abandons them whe they are no longer kittens.

This is being funded by private donations, not tax money. Donations can be sent to Feline Friendz in Nebraska, or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah.

I'd rather see these cats lives spared then the worthless murderers lining death row or doing life sentences.

"Folks, PLEASE help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutured". Hate Peta: Are you unable to read or what, RESCUE GROUPS are coming in to take care of the problem, NO tax dollars will be involved - they are kept running through donations like Staci and myself will do.

Another case of spineless people caving in to special interest groups. I can assure you, if a tray cat (or dog) wanders onto my place, it will be the last time it does so. If people are so concerned about these animals, then they should keep them controled BEFORE they become a menace.

Okay, so now instead of having dozens of feral cats running around, we'll have dozens of sexually confused cats running around.

Posted by: Staci on Mar 14, 2008 at 05:43 PM
Does anyone know where I can donate some money or anything else they might need?

Posted by: hate peta on Mar 14, 2008 at 04:40 PM
a bullet is a heck of a lot cheaper than all of the tax money they are wasting on this
