The funeral for an Iowa soldier killed in Iraq earlier this month will be held on Wednesday in his hometown of Kingsley, northeast of Sioux City.

Twenty-one-year-old Army Specialist Chad Groepper died during combat on February 17. The military says he died as a result of wounds from small-arms fire in the Diyala province northeast of Baghdad.

Groepper was assigned to 2nd Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division of Fort Lewis, Wash.

Groepper enlisted in the Army after graduating in 2004 from Kingsley-Pierson High School. He leaves behind his wife and 4-month-old daughter.

His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. at Kingsley-Pierson High School.

when asked who my hero is - it is easy to answer that....it is EVERY person who has/is serving in our GREAT Military! May the higher power bless each and everyone of them and all the people whom they touch. If it was not for our Military none of us would be where we are today.

May God bless Chad and may he live on forever in the arms of God. May God Bless his family and be comforted in some way by the fact that their son died a hero. Thank you to all the soldiers fighting for our safety and freedom!
