    A | A | A

A rollover crash on West Dodge Road slowed traffic in both directions near 96th Street Tuesday morning.

The accident happened around 9 a.m.

A Geo was eastbound when the driver lost control, went over the median and landed upside down on westbound Dodge.

Police closed down three lanes for about an hour as crews cleared the road.

Commuters were backed up for approximately a half mile.

Bye, bye, DS. Make sure to get on WOWT.com and write!

Anonymous, that sounds like a plausible story; your friend should stick with it. Did the other car hit your friends car or leave any paint? That will help with credibility and give the police something to look for.

The driver is actually one of my best friends and sorry to say it was another person that was driving right next to him tried getting into his lane. My friend tried to swerve out of the way so he did not get hit but instead overcorrected and lost control of his car. So yes, people aren't looking before making a lane change.

Gee, someone needs to take a chill pill !! And people say traffic is full of rage!! I have over one million miles of accident free commercial driving, Omaha drivers are no better nor any worse than any other city. ALL states hand out a lic. to many fools. The trick is to spot them before they cause you a problem. That is called defensive driving.

DS-Wow, your comments are rude. While Omaha is a horrible place for driving, I don't think it is fair to call us all hicks. What a stereo typical jerk you are being. This city will be better without YOU in it.

To DS hope you have a great trip out of Nebraska, cause these hicks don't like you.

HL, count your blessings! I've seen two kinds of worst drivers, both worse than Omaha. In Montgomery AL, I encountered the "completely ignorant" worst drivers. There, you've got a bunch of people driving rural rules in the city. They'll run you off the road with their pickups and think they hit a squirrel. In Boston MA, I witnessed the "most inconsiderate" worst drivers. (I didn't drive there.) They're fully aware when they run you off the road. My brother found a shirt that said "I survived Boston traffic" with a tire track across it. When we start selling "I survived Omaha traffic" shirts, it's time to move!

I DROVE IN DALLAS & L.A AND DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT CARS IN THOSE 2 CITIES PAST ME LIKE I WAS SITTING STILL THEY HAD TO BE GOING 85-90 AND THERE WERE A COUPLE OF GOOD WRECKS

Posted by: DS on Feb 12, 2008 at 03:38 PM
I, like HL, have also lived many places and Omaha is the absolute worst place I've driven in, for exactly polar reasons. All you hicks complain about the speeding and reckless driving. Here's a hint, don't play traffic cop. I've seen so many close calls where a dipstick driver will actually cut lanes then slam on their brakes because then don't like how fast somebody is going in the lane next to them. Try that in NY, you'd be dead from a gunshot (Well deserved). Use a turn signal in Omaha to switch lanes, nine times out of 10, the jerk will speed up to try and attempt to cut you off. And this city is the worst for idiots pulling out in front of traffic. The speed limit is 45 on Center, you need more than a two car length gap to pull out saftely. You people in this cow town think you're so metropolitan. You're hicks, plane and simple and you display such everyday. Thank God I'm moving back to a real city at summers end.

There is really no need to speculate that this person was driving too fast unless you were there and witnessed it with your very own eyes. What if this person had a medical condition and lost control? Just because they lost control doesn't mean something couldn't of made them. T/ToeKnee, are you saying that you are innocent and have never drove over the speed limit a day in your life? I highly doubt it! Everyone makes mistakes and this just happens to be a mistake that this driver now has to live with. Hopefully, everyone is okay that was involved.

HL, you are right. Hrm, I dont think Omaha is near as bad as LA or Dallas. Omaha may have some horrible drivers, but for the majority Omaha drivers arent all that bad. All in all, Omaha isnt that bad compared to other cities.

Posted by: Deb on Feb 12, 2008 at 02:00 PM
Hey, HL, Don't ever go to Chicago or NYC if you think this is bad!!! But people seriously need to slow down and maybe leave even 5-10 mins early! It does get a little crazy around here in the a.m...not to mention rush hour in the evening too!!!

Posted by: HL on Feb 12, 2008 at 12:21 PM
First of all, I hope any involved are okay. That being said, let's just add that this is no surprise. I've lived in many, many different places, and the driving here is the worst I've seen. So many people in Omaha drive like maniacs, speeding way over the limit, tailgating, cutting in and out, running red lights, etc., that it's amazing there aren't more fatalities. West Dodge is one of the worst stretches of road; the speed limit in that area is routinely ignored. We've all seen stories about the speeders on the expressway. And even on Dodge itself, when I've tried to go the limit - even 5 over - cars flew past like I was parked. It's a good bet that this driver was either driving recklessly OR lost control while trying to avoid someone else who was. Come on, folks, slow down a bit and help bring back the forgotten art of road courtesy!

Let me guess, going to fast?

Posted by: ToeKnee on Feb 12, 2008 at 11:39 AM
And they give people like this a license? What is Omaha coming to?
