Injured when crane falls in Pacific Junction

A Glenwood, Iowa man died Saturday after being injured when a crane at a gas pipeline construction site in Pacific Junction collapsed and crushed him.

The Mills County Sheriff's Department says 54-year-old Charles Heitman later died at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha. He was trapped beneath the crane when it fell.

Mills County Sgt. Bruce Paulsen says the accident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. at the site of a construction project, which appeared to involve installation of a gas pipeline south of Glenwood.

Paulsen says Heitman was an employee with WHC Inc. of Lafayette, Louisiana.
