There are new signs of life at an old mall and the future of the Nebraska Crossing outlet near Gretna is looking brighter.
Officials will not confirm, but sources say a Coach Purse store is coming to Nebraska Crossing. The outlet that should be successful but so far has struggled. An aggressive plan designed by the developer as well as financial help from the voters of Gretna looks to change the financial future of Nebraska Crossing.
Kelly Wills and his Big Red Rocks store have been at Nebraska Crossing for the past three years and knows about the coming changes. "I think it is exciting for the entire area."
Wills won't be here to experience the changes. He's taking his Big Red Rocks and the rest of his merchandise to another location. "Our lease is up and not knowing what the future is going to be I don't want to be a month to month and I know on the horizon they're going to be remodeling and it doesn't seem like, I won't fit into their plans, having our store here."
There are no hard feelings. Wills knows the outlet's owners are recruiting "A-list" retailers and his locally owned shop doesn't fit the profile.
All of the change was set in motion went Gretna voters agreed to subsidize the redevelopment of Nebraska Crossing. Mayor Sally McGuire says, "You have to have economic development and it is most important to the city that we do that in order to get good economic development you have to be a part of that."
The grand reopening of the Nebraska Crossing is set for the spring of 2013.
