Crashes in Platte County and near Grand Island

A | A | A

Two crashes in Nebraska Saturday morning killed two people.

The first happened just after midnight in Platte County at Higway 91 and 115th Avenue. A Platte County Sheriff's deputy says a pickup driven by 33-year-old Matthew Conlan of Leigh ran a stop sign and was hit by a semi. Conlan was killed, the truck driver was not injured.

The other accident happened just after 1 a.m. near Grand Island at the Merrick and Nance county line. The Nebraska State Patrol reports 28-year-old Toma Rutten of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska lost control of his pickup and it rolled into a ditch.

Rutten was partially ejected and died.

Toma was from Cedar Rapids NEBRASKA not Iowa. CR is a town about 60 miles north of Grand Island. Toma was one of my best friends growing up. He leaves behind a loving wife and two wonderful children. He will be missed very much.
