An Omaha man is facing child pornography charges after downloading the material on a computer in a restricted area at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Twenty-three-year-old Christopher Nielsen was taken into custody as authorities were investigating a trespassing complaint.

Security officers found Nielsen downloading the material in the student library and called police.

Investigators say that additional material was found during a search of Nielsen's home.

The Nebraska Medical Center has a computer program in place to protect medical records and patients' privacy. That same program is credited with leading investigators to Nielsen.

In the McGoogan Library of Medicine, Library Director Nancy Woelfl showed us around the sixth floor, which is open to the public. Sixteen computers are there for anyone doing medical research.

Two floors up and tucked around a corner is a computer cluster that is off-limits to anyone who is not a health professional. There are 22 computers connected to the Internet via the campus network.

There was quite a commotion there during the lunch hour Tuesday.

Ms. Woelfl says, "Security arrived almost immediately."

Security had been alerted because someone was allegedly downloading child pornography.

Omaha police arrested Christopher Nielsen of Papillion.

Investigators say Nielsen told them he'd been downloading images at the Nebraska and Creighton Medical Centers for a year.

Nancy Woelfl tells us, "We're very relieved to know that our security and patient confidentiality protections are working very effectively."

While the 8th floor computer room is restricted and anyone using it must be prepared to show a campus ID, the library director says there are no plans to make it more restrictive. This case is being called an isolated incident.
