Nine months after a devastating tornado strike in Hallam, Nebraska, the progress is dramatic but works still needs to be done.
Most of Hallam was leveled in May and one person died in the storm.
Today, the town looks like a new subdivision. Many new homes and businesses are completed or getting there.
Seventy-five percent to 80 percent of Hallam's residents took out building permits to start all over again and more are expected to start construction this spring.
Hallam Village Clerk Vicky Polak says, "I think a lot of people knew this is where their roots were, their neighbors, the people that we knew that we wanted to come back."
The tornadoes that hit Hallam cut a path of destruction through a three county area.
Farmers in Gage, Saline and southern Lancaster counties could use some help clearing debris from their fields before planting season.
If you'd like to volunteer, you're asked to call 441-4357 by Wednesday.
The actual clearing of the fields is scheduled for Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Volunteers are needed for the following activities:
Monetary donations are also welcome. Checks can be made out to: T.R.A.P./I.M.N and mailed to:
