The murders of the Brown sisters comes as a shock, though not a surprise, to those who knew the suspect. Family members and friends said Tuesday it was only a matter of time before Fabian Hands hurt someone.
"Watch out for all signs, red flags." Michelle Brown and Alice Jones are leaning on each other for support this Christmas. What should be the happiest time of the year is filled with sorrow after police were called to Saundra Brown's home late Monday night.
"Spend this holiday with their family to take into consideration and value that they still have their family here," said niece Michelle Brown. She speaks from the heart, because inside the house at 21st and Sahler, Omaha Police found the bodies of her two aunts, 48-year-old Renota Brown (pictured left) and 36-year-old Saundra Brown (pictured right).
The man arrested for the double murder, 46-year-old Fabian Hands, was Saundra's boyfriend. The women say Hands "had his moments," but Saundra didn't see any faults.
"We tried, but love is blind sometimes and when you really love somebody, sometimes it hurts," said Alice Jones, a family friend.
Brown and Jones say the family is coping, but it is difficult, especially at this time of year. Even the double murder can't erase the memories they have of Saundra and Renota Brown.
"Happy-go-lucky person. My aunt Renota, she was a strong woman with a lot of potential." Potential now that will never be fulfilled.
The Brown family tells Channel 6 News a third victim, also a relative, the one who phoned police, is doing as well as can be expected.
