A 12-year-old boy victimized six young neighborhood boys last year. A Fact Finders investigation uncovered the crimes.
Two boys ages nine and six were sexually assaulted. However, the 12-year-old at the time has been found responsible in juvenile court for two counts of attempted sexual assault -- so the boys don't have to testify.
County Attorney Don Kleine said in juvenile court the judge will take the same action on attempted sexual assault which may include treatment and probation. However once probation is completed the boy's record will be sealed.
Fact Finders won't reveal Cory's last name to protect his nine year old son. He said the 12-year-old came over and lured the younger boy into his own bedroom and closed the door. "He lured my son into his room under the guise of a childhood game and asked him to do things my son knew was wrong."
He says his son refused.
The mother of another boy who was seven at the time said the 12-year-old would lure her son out of view as they waiting for a school bus last year. The mother named Cindy said, "My son was screaming -- 'Mom he pulled down my pants, he pulled down my pants!'"
Both parents would like to see Nebraska enact a juvenile sex offender registry some other states already have adopted. Cory said, "If they happened to move to another neighborhood that neighborhood will not know what happened."
However two experts who work with both young victims and offenders said that's not a good idea.
RSafe therapist Carrie Gobel said, "A kid might be in our program for 6-to-18 months but with the registry they could be on there for years."
Gene Klein of Project Harmony said, 'For an adult if you know you'll be on the registry that could change behavior but a 12 or 14-year-old child isn't thinking that far down the road."
The now 13-year-old boy will be in juvenile court in a week or so.
