He threatened to shoot his classmates and he's been locked up since. But his mother hoped to bring him home. But she is furious about what happened instead.

“It's really hard, it's one of the hardest things I’ve had to do,” said Amy Harrison.

Harrison never imagined she'd spend more than a month away from her 12-year-old son.

“He tells me every time I’m really sorry and he feels awful and I was like 'why couldn't you have just said something else' but that's the first thing that came out of his mouth,” said Harrison.

According to a police report her son told classmates saying "you think Connecticut was bad, wait to see what I do. I'll paint these walls red. I'll kill you all. I'm going to bring a gun to school and kill all of you."

His mother says he'd been bullied.

“I think he just reached his limit and said something really stupid,” said Harrison.

Thursday he was supposed to appear in court.

“I went in there today thinking that he might get to go home, maybe conditions or a bond,” she said.

Instead the persecutor denied it due to lack of legal preparation. She says her son was taken to DCYC on December 18th. He wasn't assigned a public defender until January 22nd, meaning he's been behind bars for a month. And he missed Christmas and New Years.

“When they brought him in, he's a little kid, he had a cut on his hand from the cuffs, was bleeding and they had him shackled from hands to feet,” said Harrison.

She says her son is just a kid, who said something he shouldn't have.

“He left and I promise you I dropped to me knees and I just cried because I want him home,” said Harrison.

The Country Attorney’s Office says this isn’t rare; many juvenile’s spend time at DCYC while the legal work is done.

The 12-year-old will be back in court February 22nd.
