Brown On Red: Nebraska Now Starting Over

Ron Brown was an assistant coach with the Huskers from 1987 until 2003, when Frank Solich was fired. Brown says Bill Callahan's firing will have a domino effect on the program.

“When Frank Solich was fired after the (2003) Colorado game, we as the assistant coaches had to go out and try to keep recruiting. We didn't know what was gonna happen. We didn't know who the new coach was gonna be, we didn't know if we as assistant coaches would be retained."

Those are the same unanswered questions as Callahan's staff hangs in the balance.

Brown was at the Oklahoma State game October 13th for a 10-year reunion. "The way Oklahoma State just was able to just rip through our football team and just the lack of effort and it just seemed like there was a confidence issue at that particular game."

Something that may still be an issue if the right coach isn't chosen quickly because the players are basically starting from scratch.

"They're not gonna play for facilities, they're not gonna play even for the fans, their play is going to be in relationship to those coaches, whoever they are that are going to lead them."

Something the new coach has to understand well before ever taking the team out on the field.

Brown says when it comes to Nebraska football, Tom Osborne will always make the right decision for the team.
