A carjacking in Council Bluffs Tuesday has left a single mother of three rattled and without transportation.
Shandas Smith says she had stopped at a convenience store at 35th and Avenue A shortly before 10 p.m. When she returned to her gold Chevy Blazer she says a man in a hooded sweatshirt approached her and ordered her out of the vehicle.
She says, "As I was shutting my door, a man came up and blocked me from shutting my door and stuck something in my side that I assume was a gun. It felt like a gun. I can't be sure."
The 2003 Blazer was the newest vehicle she's ever owned. She bought it two months ago.
"I need this car," she says. "I definitely need this car. My kids need a way to school. I need a way to work. We don't have anyone else to turn to."
Police say the Blazer was last seen going west on Avenue A toward Omaha Tuesday night. The vehicle has West Coast Choppers decals on the back and side windows.
Anyone with information about the vehicle is asked to call police.
This is the second time a woman has been carjacked in the metro this week. On Sunday an Omaha woman had her car taken at 72nd and Lake. Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle robbed a restaurant minutes later.
There's no indication the two incidents are connected.
