The family of an eleven year old girl denied payment for a prosthetic leg stands up to the insurance provider. After Fact Finders contacts the company, the denial is reversed.
Fifth grader Brielle Havermann survived cancer and has one desire. Brielle said, 'I just want to walk."
Advanced Prosthetics provided the limb and called United Healthcare which approved the $70,000 cost.
But then the Havermann family received a letter stating United Healthcare had no record of authorization and the "patient is responsible for all charges."
Breille's mother Sheryl Havermann said, "You can't pull $70,000 out of the bank to pay for a leg but you can't let your child not walk."
After several calls from Fact Finders, the insurance reversed the decision.
In a statement to Channel Six News, United Healthcare spokesperson Jessica Kostner wrote, "Based on further review, we will be reprocessing and paying the claim. We apologize to the Havermann family for the inconvenience and stress this has caused and are pleased the issue has been brought to resolution."
