Nationwide alert

Authorities nationwide are on alert and on the lookout for a 13-year-old Nebraska boy and the teacher he's believed to be with.

Lexington Police say 13-year-old Fernando Rodriguez was last seen Friday and he is believed to be with his sixth-grade teacher, 25-year-old Kelsey Peterson.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Peterson charging her with kidnapping, child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The teacher and basketball coach at Lexington Middle School was placed on administrative leave last week, a day before her alleged young lover disappeared.

Authorities believed the two are traveling together in Peterson's white Pontiac and police nationwide have been notified about them.

Court documents showed authorities had recovered several e-mails and letters in which the two professed their affection for one another.

Rodriguez did contact his family last weekend. His aunt tells police he asked whether a visa or passport was required to travel to Mexico.

The Nebraska State Patrol says an Amber Alert was not issued because this case did not match certain criteria. Mainly, that police don't believe Rodriguez was abducted and they don't believe his life is in danger.

I agree with Mary, this is no different than if it was a male teacher taking off with a female student. My question is where are the parents of this boy and what insight can they give on this situation.

This makes me sick...if this was a girl instead of a boy, everyone would be up in arms. Talk about a double standard! Just think about it, if this was a 13 year old girl missing with a 25 year old male teacher everyone would be crying "RAPE"! She is a child molester, no other words are needed. As a mother of three teenage boys, the thought of what she has done sickens me beyond belief!! I hope they catch her, it's just sad that this had to happen.

What is administrative leave? Innocent until proven guilty. Maybe there is a logical explanation for all of this.

What a freak

It's really twisted that a woman in her mid-20s would prefer a whisker-less boy to a man of her own age. She's just a child-molester, plain and simple.

In answer to P.J's coments, this boy is no innocent child, even though he is only 13, he appears to have the maturity of a young adult, 18-19 years old. He is not innocent. Read the comments of fellow students of his.

I hope they find this child safe-- and arrest the teacher. She is obviously mentally ill.
