The Huskers are back at least in the polls, but the high hopes on the field are surpassed by the high expectations from fans around the Heartland.
Nebraska football fuels the local economy and brings Husker fans together at least for a little while.
While the Huskers kick off the 2010 season with a win, not everyone can make it to Memorial Stadium to see the game.
Ed Cheloha had to work and could not make it down to Lincoln so he and Barb Schuerman decided to catch the game at the pipeline.
Barb Schuerman says, "We've come here for years to watch the game it is a good atmosphere and a lot of the same people frequent the bar here so we tend to come here."
D.J. Rohr and the other employees of Clancy's spent most of the day getting ready for the flood of huskers fans expected to spend time in the bar.
D.J. Rohr says, "It is usually the busiest time of the year they fall when football starts but Husker season when you live in Nebraska is hug there won't be a dry seat in the house and especially with the pay-per-view games it's a little expensive nobody wants to order it at home."
Rohr says there is genuine excitement about this Husker season but he knows things can change quickly.
D.J. Rohr says, “If they are losing sometimes the crowd will just leave early rather than stay for the rest of the game but if they're winning they will stay all night long and just party."
For Barb and Ed the availability of the game goes a long way in determining where they will watch the Big Red.
Barb Schuerman says, "If they're on a lot of times we'll stay at home and have a group of friends come over and grill out and just enjoy it at home rather then drive but we don't live that far from here but it depends on what game is playing."
Customers at the Pipeline and Clancy's tell Channel 6 news they plan to arrive about 45-minutes to an hour before the game but if it is a big game they allow even more time in order to get a seat in the bar.
