When the economy flourished strip malls popped up like weeds. Today one in foreclosure has been overgrown with them.
Neighbors complained that an empty retail center in Northwest Omaha has been an eyesore all summer.
Six On Your Side contacted Wells Fargo bank which took control of the unfinished strip mall from the developer .
By afternoon a crew was on the site mowing weeds, some six feet tall. Realtor Mark Seager hired by the bank to maintain and market the vacant shops said he and the bank didn't realize weeds had gotten out of hand. Seager said a mowing contractor was supposed to cleanup the overgrown strip mall last month.
Neighbors hope it will now attract a potential buyer instead of critters that feared would roam from the weeds into their backyards.
A block of townhouses is just east of the strip mall.
In a statement to Six On Your Side Wells Fargo said bank officials understand the importance of maintaining foreclosed properties and will continue to do so.
