Charges filed in connection with the standoff early Monday morning in Plattsmouth. The Cassram reports that 55-year-old Edward Toman of Plattsmouth was arraigned in Cass County Court on four charges:
Count 1- first degree false imprisonment, a Class IIIA Felony
Count 2- use of a weapon to commit a felony, a Class IA Felony
Count 3- terroristic threats, a Class IV Felony
Count 4- another count of use of a weapon to commit a felony
Cass County Chief Deputy County Attorney Colin Palm said bond was set at $300,000 (10% applicable). Toman has not posted bond.
Asked if the use of a weapon charges pertained to the firing of a gun, Palm said the Plattsmouth Police Department affidavit contains facts that present evidence that a gun was fired during the incident.
Minutes after the standoff ended at 6am Monday morning, Acting Plattsmouth Police Chief Dave Murdoch told Cassgram that authorities were told by the woman that a gun was fired twice in the house but he could not confirm that until more investigation was completed.
Toman held 45-year-old Diane Beloskur against her will, said police. She had at one time tried to escape by breaking a window but was pulled back inside by Toman. He later let her go and then SWAT members fired tear gas canisters into the house at 609 15th Avenue to flush out Toman. No one was injured. (More details were in the Monday 8/30 Cassgram.)
