Metro moviegoers will soon have a new screening option. Douglas Theatres is opening 16 screens at Village Pointe, the new shopping center at 169th and Dodge.

That will make three mega-plexes in west Omaha vying for your cinema dollar.

The Stefanski's are among those who have watched development follow the population west.

Jim Stefanski says, "When we moved out here five, five-and-a-half years ago, there wasn't a restaurant within a couple of miles. Now there's everything within two to three miles of us."

That includes the new theatre.

Workers are finishing up Village Point Cinema.

Gerry Greeno, with the Douglas Theatre Company, says, "It's like our Twin Creek development. People in southern Sarpy County don't have to come all the way into town to see a movie. It's the same with here. Western Douglas County and farther west won't have so far to drive to see a movie."

Douglas Theatres wanted to be part of an upscale mix at Village Point, a place where you can wander into a store, grab a burger, then decide on a movie.

One of the first things you'll notice as a moviegoer is the seating. It's all stadium, all rockers, and there's more elbow room compared to other Douglas Theatres."

Customer comments prompted another change.

"We have two party rooms," Greeno says.

With birthday parties popular, the rooms provide a place for opening presents and having cake.

Jim Stefanski wonders if there's enough business for everyone.

He says, "That's the million dollar question we asked ourselves. We hope it works out because we don't want a vacant building in our back yard."

Village Point Cinema will offer matinees all summer long and tickets will be available online.
