An Omaha based construction firm is using a cutting edge approach to an old school problem. Lund Ross Constructors uses Wi-Fi and security cameras that are powered by battery packs to provide security to job sites long before permanent electric is installed.

"Usually you have to box a whole job in," said Andy Kavan from Lund Ross. The site he is supervising is one of two burglarized in the Old Mill area in the past two weeks. "Now you actually seal the whole job because they'll steal anything."

Kavan believes the investment into a security system that beeps when motion is detected after hours paid off, "It probably scared them off. The police response was great, they were here in 5 minutes."

With copper and other materials a constant target of thieves, Kavan says that contractors and clients have to defend themselves. "When we get hit - it hits everyone including the owner. Ultimately it impacts how we bid jobs."
