Quick Thinking Neighbors Help Police Catch A Burglary Suspect

Marlin Stratton lived on 28th Street and Ida Street for 15 years.

"Neighbors look out for neighbors in this neighborhood, so look out guys," said Stratton.

So when he decided to move away and put the house on the market to sell, he didn't worry, knowing his neighbors would keep an eye on it.

It was a feeling that turned out to be spot on.

"The police called me and let me know someone was trying to break into my house, they were caught rolling around underneath my front porch," said Stratton.

Neighbors had called police when they saw a suspicious man walking down the street with a lawn mower and crawling around Stratton's home.

"The way he was acting they say he looked like a fish out of water, flopping around," said Stratton.

Stratton quickly realized the lawn mower his neighbors were talking about was his lawn mower. He keeps the mower in the garage. Stratton said the mower was lifted out of a broken window. Fortunately, he now has his lawn mower back.

He also has a message of thanks for neighbors.

"I really appreciate what all the neighbors do in the neighborhood. It really helps everybody else in the neighborhood to know, somebody else in the neighborhood, that somebody will look out for them," said Stratton.

And while Stratton feels police have all they need to make an arrest, police tell us they are still investigating.

No arrests have been made.
