Police will tell you the harder the target, the less likely a thief is to pursue it. Omaha based Security Equipment Inc. is doing their part to lockdown homes and businesses in the ultra competitive security and alarm industry.

According to Consumer Reports, Americans will spend nearly $30 Billion on security systems for their homes and small businesses in 2012. SEi is the only major security company with a monitoring center in Omaha. "It's an advantage for our customers because the person handling your call lives here, knows if it's a Douglas County or Omaha road right away and we have at least three people on staff 24/7," said SEi Director of Integration Jason Cloudt.

SEi has worked with Honeywell to develop applications for smart phones and tablets that allow customers to arm or disarm their systems and watch live video feeds. "It's what people want and these systems are so advanced you can actually move the camera to scan a room right on your Ipad," said Cloudt.

The base price for a home system varies by company. We contacted three national providers who wouldn't quote a price over the phone, insisting on an in-home security assesment.
