Burglars Walk In Front Door

A small spike in burglaries pops up in a metro neighborhood. Homeowners in the area of 61st Street and Franklin Street said it is normally quiet and safe.

One man admits, while at home, he wouldn't always lock his front door. That is until a few days ago.

"I heard my doorbell ring, I was in my back bedroom, and before I could get to the door, they started pounding on the door," said a man living on Franklin Street.

But just before reaching the door, "the door opened and I am talking about my inner door. And here is two teenage girls."

Surprised and mad, he asked in as angry of a voice he could muster, what exactly they were doing?

"They said in a very calm voice, does Ashley live here? I said there is no Ashley here. And they said oh thank you and turned around and walked off," said the homeowner.

Today he feels he may have dodged becoming a burglary target. Because just a few houses down, another home was broken into as well.

"She said oh, the day before a teenage girl had come to her door posing for the heart fund," said the homeowner.

Five other burglaries within two weeks have occurred in the area.

This homeowner has since reported everything to police, he hopes others who've experienced this do the same. And he says now, even while home, he'll take the small step of locking the door.
