Burglaries Spike in West Omaha Neighborhood

There are a couple of different possibilities when looking at how a thief broke into another home in the Willow Wood neighborhood in Omaha and both of them are frightening.

Tracy and John Yetter's home on Burdette Circle was the latest target. A WOWT 6 News producer also lives in the area and says he knows of two other burglaries in the past month. Even after losing all of their electronics and their daughter's babysitting money in the burglary the Yetters are trying to keep everything in perspective. "Nobody was hurt. The was no vandalism. They didn't punch holes in the walls, they just took things that can be replaced," said Tracy Yetter.

The Yetters think the thieves either sat and watched to see when Tracy, who works part time, left their home. The other possibility is that the thieves walked on the trail around the park that passes by their home and just looked inside to see if the house was empty.

"We just want everyone to know what's going on. We're being very proactive and telling everyone to be aware," said Yetter.

They are also advising people to take the time to write down the serial numbers on all of their electronic items and send a copy to an insurance agent along with the item description.
