@ To Me: It is coincidental, reguarding my reference of critical thinking, not ironic. There is a difference. I am not making a point because I dont have a point you havent already made. Moreover, my original comment was in support of yours. Scriptures were accepted/tossed out at the council of Nicea. The virgin birth is a recurring theme back to the Egyptians. Lets not forget about the epic of Gilgamesh either (big flood) ring a bell. And lo the trinity is not unique to Christianity either.

Get back with me when you have a point, and can write a sentence that makes sense. The real irony is your mention of critical reasoning.
Posted by: Town Crier on Sep 20, 2010 at 01:11 PM

The question is too "absurd" for an answer. Yet the irony of it is that when you ask a question correctly your answer presents its self within it. Lucky however, for the horse, its ability to swim is innate. Critical reasoning on the other hand must be taught.

May be you should actually try reading this book you deem as the ultimate truth. I thinking from this saccharine coated rhetoric your dripping that you've only read the cliff notes.

If you actually believe in the 'Holy Bible I think you would at least be curious enough to wonder about how some scriptures where accepted and some were rejected. Don't forget scriptures from other religions such as Judism and Islam are still scriptures and some scriptures didn't make the final cut for the offical "Holy Books" of any of these religions. Someone unafraid of the truth shouldn't be afraid to look at things from all angles and the stories concerning Armegeddon from all three of these religions are too much the same to come from different sources. I'd was just trying to make a point that there are better possibilities than a belief that everything must end in total destruction. Sorry I tried to counter your feel good catch phrases and double talk with logic and reason. TOWN CRIER, I'd like to help you out but your question is just too absurd for an answer. I guess you can lead a horse to water, but you can't teach him to swim.

@ To AsatruHeathen: Let me see if I follow you correctly. God impregnates a virgin with himself to have himself grow up and offers himself as a sacrifice to himself to save us from the original sin he originally condemed us with?

I should address something you wrote in your comment at 08:04 AM. The Holy Bible, as written, is the true Word of God. As a follower of Jesus Christ, the only religious text I recognize as the True Word of God is the Christian Holy Bible. Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of the entire World - He is the ultimate gift for mankind, and is available to anyone and everyone. The message of redemption, which is the heart of the Christian faith, is the simplest concept in the world, yet it has been distorted and perverted by many who claim to speak for God, or for Christians in general. God, your father, loves you so much that He sacrificed His perfect, sinless son so that you and I may have the opportunity at eternal life. Our sins make us unclean and unworthy of entrance into Heaven; indeed, all of us deserve nothing more than eternal damnation in hell. Fortunately, God's love is stronger than the evil that exists in all of our hearts. There is a place for you in God's house - eternally.

My friend, you are so lost that I don't where to begin to help you. God loves you and is patiently waiting for you to open your eyes and heart to the Truth of Jesus.

If you read the rest of the scriptures such as the Quran, the Talmud, etc, the Bible actually begins to make sense. Please don't tell me only the Bible is valid. If you believe the scriptures are the word of your God then you can't pick and choose saying only some of the scriptures are the word of your God.

You should read your own bible since you obviously aren't very familiar with it. The fact that you deny that enslavement, death, torture of all living things is part of your God's plan clearly outlined in Revelations, as well as other scripture not included in the Bible, shows that you don't know your own religion. You have to ask yourself, what kind of person would have any part or endorsement of such a scheme of hateful destruction? As for the date of Armegeddon I didn't say it was in the Bible. I said the date given for Armegeddon is in the scriptures. Do you really think all the scriptures made it to the Modern Bible? As usual Christians don't know their own religion. I might suggest some of you Christians actually make a serious study of all the Scriptures before you go skipping merrily down the path of of destruction for yourselves and all creation.

Where are these speakers 1st Amendment Rights? IMHO, that should supersede the ACLU's action. It's disgusting to me that protests held by the "Westboro Baptist Church" is protected under the 1st Amendment but yet these speakers have been put on notice by the ACLU. By the way, the ACLU has filed at least one lawsuit on behalf of the WBC to protect that organization's 1st Amendment rights. Seems hypocritical that they don't stand up for the speakers... guess they might not agree with the message?

@ Henry: Funny how your proposed solution is for those that disagree with you to simply *leave*. You are a shining example of the devisiveness and harden hearts that religion bestows upon us. Thank you for posting the EXACT opposite of what Christian values and ethics are. You have dismantled your own argument. BTW @ Dave 6:18 am: how do you make the assertion you have empirical knowledge of the TRUTH with a straight face.

Most people here have it wrong - just like both the groups they claim to be representing. First, not everyone believes what Christians believe, so yes religion should not be promoted during something like this - save it for Sunday at your own church. But this is a free country, and the ACLU should let anyone say what's on their mind - if you don't agree with what this person is saying, don't go to the lecture and don't listen! Bottom line, preaching religious themes at a non religious forum is not recommended but should not be banned either. It's funny how some groups will preach tolerance and freedom unless it's in contrast to their own beleifs.

CK: Not much older than you are. Educated in OPS schools, all the way through high school. Second grade teacher, who made no bones about her hatred of teaching the "unsaved". My mother, divorced by then, complained to the principal, which just made it that much worse for me in class. The unsaved child of *gasp* a divorced woman. (The early 60's were a real judgmental time.) I'm so glad we've moved on as a society. For the others - did you know that the ACLU regularly defends churches and Christians that are persecuted? Those Christian denominations that are a little outside the mainstream have particularly benefited from the ACLU's defense. Try typing in "ACLU" and "Jehovah's Witness" or "Seventh Day Adventist" and read a little. Freedom of religion works both ways.

The ACLU is protecting your freedom from sponsored indoctrination in an environment where parents are entrusting their kids to the state. If you don't like your freedoms you can move to China or Iran. There is no CCLU or ICLU.
