At least three former teammates of baseball legend Bob Gibson will return to celebrate the unveiling of
the centerpiece of the Bob Gibson Heritage Project April 10 and 11. The events are sponsored by the Sarpy
County Sports Commission.
Tim McCarver, Gibson's former catcher with the St. Louis Cardinals, Joe Torre and Bill White will
take part in the Wednesday, April 10 Heritage Project Banquet at the LaVista Embassy Suites and the unveiling
of an original sculpture of Gibson the next day at Werner Park.
Tickets to the banquet are $100 each or $1000 for a table of 10. VIP tickets, which include a private
social hour before the banquet are $250 each or $2500 for a table. Reservations may be made online at
www.bobgibsonproject.org. Tickets may be ordered by mail through the Sarpy County Sports Commission, 501

The eight-foot bronze statue of Gibson delivering a pitch was sculpted by Creighton University artist-inresidence
Littleton Alston. It will be located southwest of the main entrance to Werner Park, the home of the
Omaha Storm Chasers.
The Gibson sculpture is the centerpiece to a planned Walk of Fame, which would honor Nebraska
natives who are in the baseball Hall of Fame.
Gibson, who has lived in Sarpy County for nearly 40 years, is an Omaha native who starred in basketball
and baseball at Omaha Tech High School and Creighton University. He began his professional baseball career
with the Triple-A Omaha Cardinals in 1957 and his 17-year major league career with the St. Louis Cardinals two
years later.
McCarver, currently a baseball analyst for Fox Sports, was Gibson's catcher for 11seasons with the
Cardinals. He also hosts the nationally-syndicated sports interview program, The Tim McCarver Show.
White, who spent 13 seasons in the major leagues, was the president of the National League from 1989-
94. White spent eight seasons with Gibson as a Cardinal teammate.
Torre, most remembered as the longtime manager of the New York Yankees, was Gibson's teammate for
six seasons during his 18-year career in the major leagues. He is currently the Executive Vice President for
Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball.
