The U.S. Figure Skating Championships are set to begin Sunday at CenturyLink Center Omaha, but before the pros take the ice, WOWT Sports Director Ross Jernstrom and meteorologist Jill Gilardi took a spin around the rink. Thursday's skating lesson was courtesy of 2011 Figure Skating Champion Ryan Bradley.
Bradley was an excellent teacher. He's been skating since age 2 and his parents and sister are also skaters. Bradley says the best time to learn is when you're young, before you know skating can be dangerous.
Before taking the rookies around the rink, Bradley showed off a few moves. He says all spectators know the salchow and want to see it. Lori Moehn, co-chair of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, was also on hand to help the skaters.
Ross and Jill perfected the art of stopping before moving on to the backwards skate. Both managed to stay on their feet the entire time they were on the ice.
