Matt Kubel baffled Kearney bats and ninth-place hitter Patrick Steed helped ignite two big innings for Fairfield, Connecticut in a 12-0, five-inning victory Saturday afternoon at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Steed walked and scored in a three-run third inning before getting an RBI double and coming home on Biagio Paoletta's own two-base hit in a six-run fourth. Connecticut moves on to play Monday while Kearney was eliminated from title contention.
Kubel, a 13-year-old lefty, struck out six.
Kearney, the first team from Nebraska to ever play in the Little League World Series, has gone 0-2. They play Germany in a consolation game on Monday.
