The UNO women's soccer team edged South Dakota 2-1 in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon in Omaha.
South Dakota struck first at the 18:06 mark when Teagan Eberle played a ball behind the defense that Jenny Teslow ran on to and finished from close range inside the left post past UNO goalkeeper Sarah Warren.
The Mavericks tied the game in the 28th minute when Anna Sibson played a long ball up the left side to Katlyn Nimtz, who settled the ball and finished from the edge of the penalty area.
Less than three minutes later, UNO took a 2-1 lead after Monica Bosiljevac took a long pass from Jordyn Braun and chested it around the keeper and walked it into the net. The Mavs took the 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
After Warren finished the half with three saves, Meaghan Clark came in to play goalie in the second half and made a big stop on a breakaway by Teslow at the 25:39 mark.
The Mavericks open the regular season next Friday against Iowa State, 5 p.m. at the UNO Soccer Field.
