Huskers Hold First Scrimmage

The Nebraska football team continued its fall camp by competing in a team scrimmage Saturday, practicing for just over two hours inside Memorial Stadium in full pads.

Head coach Bo Pelini addressed the media following practice and overall liked how the team competed in the first week of practice.

“I’ve seen a lot of positive things and a lot of things that you can expect during the first week of practice. I’ve also seen a lot of things we need to work on and get better at. But it’s about where you expect to be at after the end of the first week. I thought it was a really good first week though, good attention of detail and great effort.”

During the team’s scrimmage, Pelini liked the tempo, which allowed the offensive to get well over 100 plays in. Pelini also noted that he likes what he has seen from freshman defensive back Charles Jackson.

“Charles is a talented young man who has a lot to learn, but he has put his time in and is really working hard. He is going to be a good player in time.”

After the first week of practice, Pelini also liked the overall depth of the team with competition for playing time at all positions. “There is no one that is set in their position, that is why we are out here practicing, the guys are competing hard."

Pelini said offensive lineman Tyler Moore has left the team to address personal issues, but would be welcome to return. Moore last year became the first Nebraska freshman to start on the offensive line in a season opener. He started the first four games at right tackle and appeared in nine games. The sophomore was the projected starter at left tackle this season.

After conducting nine practices in eight days, the Huskers will be off on Sunday. The team returns to practice on Monday as Nebraska continues preparation for its September 1st season opener against Southern Miss.
