The first day of Jerry Sandusky's child sexual abuse trial has ended after prosecutors' first witness offered graphic testimony about abuse he said dates to the 1990s.

The witness, now 28, is known in court documents as Victim No. 4.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, has maintained his innocence on dozens of counts of abuse.

Defense lawyer Joseph Amendola asked the man to read parts of letters that Sandusky wrote on Penn State letterhead. The letters appeared to encourage him after the two met through Sandusky's Second Mile charity.

Amendola asked the man why he wasn't more forceful in shunning Sandusky during interactions in the late 1990s. The man says he didn't want to raise suspicion that might result if he cut ties suddenly.

Testimony resumes Tuesday morning.
