Olympic Swim Trials Pool Ahead Of Schedule

Construction on the Olympic Swim Trials pool is ahead of schedule. Trials CEO Harold Cliff said Thursday it could be filled with water on Friday.

The event runs at the CenturyLink Center from June 25th to July 2nd. Crews are working to have the main pool ready while a second warm-up pool is under construction.

Retired 10-time Olympic medalist Gary Hall Jr. said the large crowds do encourage the swimmers. “It adds to the event. I was one of those swimmers who thrived on the environment and pulled that energy from the crowd and used it to my advantage in the swim performance.”

Hall said he misses the rush of competition and figures to get his fix when he cheers for his friends. Hall’s last race came in the same building at the 2008 trials. He finished fourth in the 50-meter freestyle and didn't make the U.S. team. Hall is now an ambassador for the sport and consultant on caring for diabetes.

After the trials, it will take less than a week to dismantle the main pool, which will be sent to an aquatic facility near Boston.

A worker who suffered broken fingers and a concussion in a fall from the pool deck on Tuesday, was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday.
