The College Home Run Derby will return to Omaha in July for a third year.

Eight of the top hitters in college baseball will be invited to compete on July 3 at TD Ameritrade Park, which is home to the College World Series.

The rules of the competition have been tweaked. Any ball that hits the warning track will not be considered an out, and hitters will have a chance to score extra points by hitting a home run with a bonus ball.

The event will be broadcast nationally by CBS at 1 p.m. on July 8.

The Omaha World-Herald's annual fireworks show will follow the home run derby. The 22-minute display celebrates Independence Day.

Tickets to the event are already on sale starting at $8.
