Indiana Sweeps Nebraska 7-5, 9-6

Indiana swept a twinbill from Nebraska, winning 7-5 and 9-6, Sunday afternoon in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers took a 1-0 lead in the first without getting a hit. The first two hitters reached on a hit-by-pitch and a walk. Micah Johnson hit a potential double-play ball to shortstop Chad Christensen, but he was unable to field it cleanly and only got the out at second that allowed Justin Cureton to score from third.

Pat Kelly started the third inning for the Huskers with a home run over the left-field wall. The next two hitters struck out, but Michael Pritchard singled and Christensen hit his eighth homer of the season.

Indiana tied it in the fourth with a pair of runs and took a 5-3 lead in the fifth on a two-out single by Michael Basil with the bases loaded. Another two runs in the seventh made it a 7-3 game.

Kyle Hart (4-4) was the winner and Brandon Pierce (5-3) took the loss.

Indiana took a 6-1 lead in the second inning of game two, knocking out NU starter Zach Hirsch (4-4), who gave up four runs on four straight two-out hits, including two triples and a double.

The Huskers (29-18, 9-9 Big Ten) cut the deficit to 6-4 with three runs in the fourth. Kelly’s sacrifice fly with the bases loaded scored one and Cory Burleson followed with a two-run double.

The Hoosiers (24-24,11-7 Big Ten) immediately answered with two runs to take an 8-4 lead. Nebraska came back with two in the sixth on a single by Burleson, whose four RBIs were a career high.

Pritchard increased his hitting streak to 24 games with a single in the third inning of the second game. That moved Pritchard one game ahead of Curtis Ledbetter (23 games in 2003). Pritchard now has the fourth longest streak in NU history since 1958 and is one game behind Derek Dukart's 25-game streak from 1994.
