Huskers Defeat Indiana In First Meeting Since 1906

Behind a seven-strikeout performance from freshman Kyle Kubat and three home runs from the Husker offense, Nebraska snapped Indiana's four-game winning streak 13-2 Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.

Behind a seven-strikeout performance from freshman Kyle Kubat and three home runs from the Husker offense, Nebraska snapped Indiana's four-game winning streak 13-2 Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.

Chad Christensen, Kash Kalkowski and Josh Scheffert each had three hits and three RBIs on the afternoon as the Huskers (29-16, 9-7 Big Ten) out-hit the Hoosiers (22-24,9-7 Big Ten) 16-5. Christensen, Scheffert and Richard Stock accounted for NU’s three homers.

In his first career conference start, Kubat (3-0) put together his best game as a Husker with the career-high seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings. After giving up two runs on three hits in the first inning, Kubat settled down and gave up just one hit and didn’t allow a runner past second over the next 5.2 innings.

Nebraska scored seven times in the fourth and four times in the sixth with single runs in the first and ninth innings.

Michael Pritchard extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a leadoff single in the sixth and can tie Curtis Ledbetter for the fourth longest hitting streak in NU history since 1958 with a hit on Sunday.

Joey DeNato (7-2) lasted just five innings for Indiana, charged with eight runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
