Nebraska's Madeleine Sheils claimed a spot as an individual in the Central Regional of the 2012 NCAA Women's Golf Tournament when the regional fields were announced on Monday night.

Sheils, a senior from Boise, Idaho, captured one of 18 overall individual selections into the NCAA Tournament field, which is also made up of 63 teams. Sheils will be one of six individuals playing alongside of 21 teams at the NCAA Central Regional on The Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, May 10-12.

Sheils, who is coming off a tie for third at the 2012 Big Ten Tournament, could benefit from recent experience on The Scarlet Course, after the Huskers closed the regular season at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational hosted by Ohio State, April 21-22.

Sheils heads to the NCAA Central Regional hoping to extend one of the best individual seasons in school history. Nebraska's leader throughout the season, Sheils has produced the third-best stroke average in school history (74.24) while capturing seven top-10 finishes on the year among her nine top-20 performances in 11 tournaments. She won the individual crown at the 2011 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash., during the fall season when she fired a then-school-record 67.

She has carded six rounds better than par this season, including four in her last nine competitive rounds. She closed the Big Ten Tournament with back-to-back rounds of 71 to propel her to Nebraska's best individual conference tournament performance since 2007.

Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 10-12 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies apply.

A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.

The championships finals will be held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., and will be hosted by Vanderbilt. The regional sites and the selected teams and individuals are listed below.

East Regional
The East regional will be played at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa., and will be hosted by Penn State. Conference automatic qualifiers are indicated in parenthesis next to the school.
