Neil Ramirez quieted the league's highest-scoring offense with six scoreless innings as Round Rock claimed the opener of a four-game series with a 4-2 win over Omaha Tuesday night at the Dell Diamond. The Storm Chasers lost to the Express for the first time in five meetings and fell to 9-4 on the season.
Nate Adcock made his third start for Omaha and was finally touched for his first run of the season in the second inning when Matt Kata walked, stole second base and came plateward on a two-out single by Tommy Mendonca. The hosts tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Yangervis Solarte and a double play grounder with the bases loaded.
Ramirez yielded four singles, struck out four, did not walk a batter and did not allow a runner to advance past second base to win for the first time this season. The visitors scratched across their first run in the eighth against Aaron Heilman when Jarrod Dyson singled, moved to third on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on a Johnny Giavotella ground out.
However, the Express got the run right back in the bottom of the frame on a Joey Butler solo home run off Brandon Sisk.
Max Ramirez drove in his league-best 19th run with a two-out single in the ninth but pinch-hitter Anthony Seratelli flied out to end the game as the Chasers lost for a third time in five games on their first road trip of the year.
Adcock was saddled with the loss after yielding three runs on eight hits while walking two and fanning three over seven innings, the deepest a Storm Chasers starter has gone into a game this year.
The series continues Wednesday night with Omaha left-hander Ryan Verdugo taking the mound against Round Rock right-hander Greg Reynolds. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
