Creighton swept through the first three games of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, earning a spot in the title game with a 10-3 win over Illinois State Thursday evening.

The Bluejays (25-28) await the winner of the B portion of the bracket to see who'll they face on Saturday night.

CU starter Erik Mattingly matched his longest outing since his no-hit effort against Indiana State on April 7th, surrendering three runs in six innings. Mattingly finished with two strikeouts and allowed seven hits.

The Jays scored twice in the first inning. Brad McKewon was hit by a pitch, stole second and went to third on a Nick Judkins single. Judkins was forced on a grounder by Chance Ross, but McKewon scored. Ross then stole second and later scored on a Mike Gerber single.

Creighton took advantage of a pair of Redbird errors in the fifth inning to push across three runs and take a 5-0 lead. A pair of fly balls sandwiched a single from Anthony Bemboom to right field, leaving the Jays with a runner at first and two outs. A ground ball off Gerber's bat looked like it would end the frame and strand another runner, but first baseman Kyle Stanton dropped the throw from second. The third hit of the day from Scott Thornburg, a single through the left side, scored Bemboom and put both runners in scoring position. A Jake Peter single pushed across two more Jays.

Illinois State got two runs on the board in the fifth and another in the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Creighton iced the game with a five-run eighth inning.
