Mavs Give Up 14 Runs, 16 Hits, 14 Walks In 14-5 Loss
Kansas State knocked out 16 hits and took advantage of 14 walks and two errors by UNO in a 14-5 Wildcat rout of the Mavericks Saturday afternoon in Manhattan.

Kansas State knocked out 16 hits and took advantage of 14 walks and two errors by UNO in a 14-5 Wildcat rout of the Mavericks Saturday afternoon in Manhattan.

Joe Flattery (5-3) got the win, limiting the Mavs to one run on seven hits over seven innings. He only walked one while striking out five. Matt Tew (1-5) took the loss, allowing five runs on three hits over 3.1 innings, walking eight and striking out two.

UNO (12-33) led 1-0 in the first as Brady Hohl and Colby McCord both singled and moved up a base on Caleb Palensky's bunt. Mark Waldron's sacrifice fly brought in Hohl.

Kansas State (21-27) immediately tied the score in the home half of the first on a Jon Davis fielder's choice with the bases full. K-State added another run in the second on Ross Kivett's sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats stretched the lead to 6-1in the fourth. Dan Klein homered and Jared King hit a two-run triple.

The Mavericks got as close as 8-5 in the eighth. Waldron singled with the bases loaded for two runs, but back came Kansas State with a six-run eighth.
